No doom no gloom

What a pleasure to be a part of something new and positive and vibrant. I am one of 115 vendors at a brand new shop in Savannah, called Merchants on Bee. I am a papier mache artist selling my work there and today as part of the Grand Opening weekend, I did a demo. There was great energy and excitement  (and shopping!) for the creativity on display. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing hopeful venture.

I will also be teaching classes, but if you be with us, here are my instructions:

HOW TO MAKE PAPIER MACHE

  1. Make a base from recycled cardboard (trash), wadded up newspaper (trash), plastic grocery bags (trash) and lots and lots of masking tape.
  2. Protect the remote control, laptop keyboard, phone and anything else you care about. Danger of death by glue!
  3. Make strips from newspaper, magazine pages, book pages or any kind of paper that can easily be torn.
  4. Using premixed wallpaper paste, add strips over base and paste and paste and paste.
  5. Let layers dry and then continue pasting.
  6. Cover shape with strips of white tissue paper.
  7. Paint with white Gesso and let dry.
  8. Paint with acrylic paint and let dry.
  9. Varnish or seal.
  10. Stand back and admire your artwork after 10 hours of labor to create a magnet!

I made at least 2 paper mache Halloween heads with a large balloon and lots of mess. My favorite was the mini mouse head.
