My Decorating Dreamlife

Several years ago I downsized to a tiny home; actually 2 rooms in a 400 square foot converted garage. My thought was with so much less stuff, my new home would finally have the look of my fantasies – open sunlit spaces artfully decorated like an IKEA catalog room. There would be a few perfectly placed accessories in the sparse Scandinavian décor; stylish, elegant and modern.

This morning I looked at my home as if I was seeing it through the lens of someone else looking for clues about who lived here. Clearly this person loved color and original art. She has a love of family with many photos from both past and present. She is a book lover and has quotes for inspiration posted everywhere. She loves old toys and shows a sense of humor in what she collects. Half of the living room is a messy art studio devoted to creating with  lots of paint and paper.  Much of the furnishings appear to come from thrift shops or hand-me-downs.

So I learned something about myself and gained a renewed gratitude for not just shelter, but MY shelter. My home will never appear is a glossy magazine – too many things that do not match, too personal and way too many “accessories”. But if having one’s home reflecting the person who lives there is a good thing, mine is an award winner.

I could just picture your place as I read this – very descriptive!

I may have gone a bit easy on the amount of art chaos…

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! At an age where I can JUST let it be and go with what works, my hat is off to you!

I saw a quote from Agnes Varga that says it all today. “There is only one age – ALIVE.” Love this!
