Next year will mark 3o years since I quit smoking. So why do have so many matches?
I have an antique tin that was my grandmother’s. When I opened it, it was full of her match collection. She didn’t smoke, but my grandparents did travel quite a bit, so they form a scrapbook of sorts.
I have their matches from all over the United States; from Israel and Australia. There are lots of matches from local restaurants that closed. There are engraved matchbooks that couples used to have personalized for their weddings. I know some of those folks and those marriages are closed as well. Here are a few photos of some of the vintage covers.
I would love to know what the Circus Room was.
The graphic design and considerable design work done tells me the matchbooks were a serious vehicle for advertising. Just glad my grandparents stayed in the high end motels – with phones AND air-conditioning.

Hmmm. It’s as if we were related!
